Bangladesh U-19 v Ireland U-19
Bangladesh beat Ireland by 8 wickets
Feb 20, 2008
A cool knock from opener Ashraful Hossain and Mahmudul Hasan Limon's superb off-spin bowling helped Bangladesh thrash Ireland by eight wickets in their second group D match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup at the Bayueams Oval in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The young Tigers warmed up for Friday's clash against England that will decide the top spot in the group.
Bangladesh coolly knocked off a target of 124, as opener Ashraful hit an unbeaten 71 to support a polished effort in the field against Ireland. Ashraful, who hails from Chittagong, smashed 14 boundaries in his 79-ball effort.
He lost opening partner Mithun Ali, who also went for the jugular with a 24-ball 31, after sharing a 63-run stand. Baby-faced Nadimuddin Mintu fell cheaply for 14 but Rony Talukdar (two not out) rounded off the target with Ashraful in the 23rd over.
They chased a target after captain Suharwardi Shuvo put the Irish into bat to let his bowlers have their own.
Shuvo's three-pronged pace attack Dollar Mahmud, Shuvashish Roy and Rubel Hossain took four wickets among themselves.
Off-spinner Mahmudul Hasan, a former captain of this side, claimed four wickets as Ireland were shot out for 123.
